Understanding
Why microplastics are difficult to see.
Microplastics span a wide range of sizes, and much of that range sits below what the human eye can resolve. A sample can look entirely clean and still hold particles that only appear under magnification.
Clarity describes how light passes through water. It is not a statement about what the water contains. Judging a glass by eye answers a question about appearance, not about microscopic content.
Optical screening changes what is being asked. A sample is prepared so that particles are collected onto a screening membrane, then placed under controlled magnification and illumination — where it can be observed directly rather than assumed.
The question is not whether water looks clear. It is what a prepared sample shows.
Scope of observation
Visual screening and laboratory polymer identification answer different questions. Observing a particle under magnification does not identify what it is made of; confirming polymer composition requires laboratory analysis. MP SCAN is built for the first of those — looking, comparing and communicating what a prepared sample shows.
